National Spectrum Consortium

Description

The National Spectrum Consortium (NSC) is collaborating with multiple government agencies through a 5-year, $1.25 Billion, Section 845 Prototype Other Transaction Agreement (OT) with The Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, Emerging Capabilities and Prototyping (ODASD, EC&P). The NSC continues to recruit a broad and diverse membership that includes representatives from large businesses, small businesses, “non-traditional” government contractors, academic research institutions and not-for-profit organizations.

The collaboration between industry and government is focusing on four major activities:

  • Maturing technologies that assist in improved electromagnetic spectrum awareness, sharing and use;
  • Experimentation to better inform the optimal allocation of those technologies for both public and private objectives;
  • Demonstration of new technologies to increase trust among spectrum stakeholders;
  • Policy development to ensure technologies don’t outpace the appropriate guidance for their best use.

Specific industry segments of interest include wireless technologies, radars and signal processing, electronic warfare, and spectrum monitoring and sensing.

The University of Mississippi is a founding member of the NSC and holds representation on the Steering Committee.
